Love Letters to Life

Love Letter to Life 01.01.2021 Baby Me
Dear Life, This is me celebrating life. That expression of joy and enthusiasm carried me from there to here. I honor the Spirit within me that takes me forward into a New Year. Wishing you all, Peace, Hope and Joy. LEAN INTO LOVE AS WE WALK INTO 2021

Love Letter to Life 01.03.2021 Remember “Being Grounded”?
Dear Life, I remember my mother’s voice saying, “you’re grounded” and off to my room I would go to write and draw and paint. Now, 60 plus years later, we are all “grounded” by the Pandemic and what am I doing? Writing and drawing and painting. Creativity prepared me for this unprecedented global event. Freedom is within.

Love Letter to Life 01.04.21 The First Monday Of 2021
Dear Life, I woke at 5:45am, meditated and prayed, washed my face and brushed my teeth while seeing how fast my hair is growing, stretched and lifted weights while coffee brewed, read inspiring words and reflected in journal writing, smiled and laughed, read and sent texts, looked at emails and now writing Love Letter. Pretty good start for the first Monday of the New Year!

Love Letter to Life 01.05.2021 Hey, Look Who Has Hair!
Dear Life, Every day my hair is growing! Fast! It is something you really notice after losing every hair on your body. I made my first haircut appointment in over a year. I’m planning on a spiky punk rock style. It’s fun to change up my look with wigs, too, but I am happy to have real hair atop my noggin!

Love Letter to Life 01.06.2021 Epiphany
Dear Life, My catholic upbringing reminds me that January 6th is Epiphany, also known as Little Christmas. Today, in Georgia, in Washington DC and throughout the USA, we are witnessing an “EPIPHANY”. Let the stars and light shine as the darkness moves out.

Love Letter to Life 01.07.2021 Crossroads
Dear Life, Protesters stormed the Capital, blood was shed, and then late into the night, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were confirmed. At home, water leaked from the pipes in my art storage space so I had to evacuate the art. This calm piece surfaced amongst the work. It will be framed and hung to remind me of all the crossroads there are in life and To Have Hope for a Better Day.

Love Letter to Life 01.09.2021 Vitally Alive and Grateful
Dear Life, I looked out the window this morning. The clouds seemed to be in a Big V. I padded back to bed, had a few sips of coffee, and thought, “I, like the sky, am Vitally alive”. The coffee helped me realize the “Vital” feeling. Then I heard “Hey sleepy head, you are living proof of being alive against the odds”. And how odd I am.Thankful and Smiling!

Love Letter to Life 01.11.2021 Breathe With Small Steps
Dear Life, Awake at 3:00am with anxious thoughts trying to solve my and the world’s problems. Finances are challenging, not only for me but for many people. It was emotionally hard to get a haircut. And forget romance! Finally, I listened to a meditation. Sometimes I need a voice other than my own to help. I fell back to sleep. Today, it’s simply one foot in front of the other. Breathe and keep moving simply forward.

Love Letter to Life 1.12.2021 New Moon and New Ideas
Dear Life, I slept 10 hours and what a difference! I feel so much better. Here’s something to consider from the Power Path”: This is a perfect time to plant a seed for something new and then to trust that it will take root. This is not only for yourself and your personal intentions but for the planet as well.” Intend for better and we can make it happen.

Love Letter to Life 01.13.2021 Noodling Around
Dear Life, There are times when all I seem to accomplish is noodling around… paint a little, collage a little, write and read a little, eat more than a little (non-dairy ice cream is now a daily food group), walk more than a little (10,159 steps but who’s counting). And I’m working on changing my neural pathways. That’s the ultimate noodling around!

Thank you, Life and Love

Love Letter to Life 01.17.2021 Road Trip to Bosque Del Apache
Dear Life, Pam Platt and I hit the road Sat 5am. Drove south watching the sunrise. I recommend this day trip from Santa Fe. It was refreshing to be in the Wildlife Preserve and see the birds, animals, land and sky. Safe too. Only a few humans in their cars. Back in Santa Fe, saw barricaded Capital Building and shutdown streets. Please let us be safe here in captivity. Love of nature and hope helps me stay sane.

Love Letter to Life 01.18.2021 Change Through Peace
Dear Life, I offer this quote today, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.:”Peace is not merely a distant goal we seek, but … a means by which we arrive at that goal.” My thoughts and actions align to demonstrate with peace and love. This powerful energy changes everything for the better.

Love Letter to Life 01.19.2021 Whether Or No
Dear Life, The clouds gather thick and dark on the horizon. A snowstorm is in the weather forecast. I hope we have lots of snow and the city doesn’t plow the streets. Peaceful prevention of potentially violent gatherings. Let it snow and let there be peace.

Love Letter to Life 01.20.2021 A New Day and House Cleaning
Dear Life, Sweeping changes are happening. There is always “house-cleaning” at the start of a new day and a new administration. I will watch the Inauguration then have blood tests and see my oncologist. May I keep my house clean, in body and spirit, while I move forward with hope.

Love Letter to Life 01.21.2021 A New President, A New Precedent
Dear Life, Watching the Inauguration filled me with hope. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we can overcome being in “the belly of the beast” and move upward “on the hill we climb”. There have been setbacks and some very dark moments, however, our capacity for resiliency moves us forward as a nation today with a new precedent: HOPE and UNITY “Be the light” Quotes from Inaugural Poet, Amanda Gorman

Love Letter to Life 01.22.2021 Results Are In
Dear Life, Blood test results showed improvement. Working towards “normal”. Petscan is in 6 weeks. I glow in the dark after so many x-rays, ultrasounds, and petscans. The light shines bright and clear within me!

Love Letter to Life 01.23.21 Signature Suspenders
Dear Life, Another Spirit takes flight amidst the quiet colors of dawn. Throughout my adult life, I heard the inquisitive voice of Larry King interview people from all corners of the world. I am inspired to live in his legacy of being curious and asking the hard questions… and the softer ones, too.

Love Letter to Life 01.24.2021 No Snow But Still Winter
Dear Life, Each day in the studio, I drag the brush filled with pigment across the 140 lb watercolor paper to see what will happen. Curiosity drives the artist. Hope this Sunday finds you happily wondering what will happen, as winter promises snow and each day sheds a little more light. I like winter.

Love Letter to Life 01.25.2021 Yackity the Mental Noise Machine
Dear Life, What is it with waking up to a conversation in my head and trying to make sense of it having missed the opening lines in my sleep! It reminds me blackouts and coming to. Some of you know what I’m talking about. I’m learning to say, “Good Morning, Yackity. Thank you for sharing but I have better things to do than listen to you.” Then I put on the headphones and meditate. OM

Love Letter to Life 01.26.2021 What I Don’t Know I Don’t Know
Dear Life, I am rebuilding my website with a designer. I have this “idea” that I know how to do this but in reality I know nothing about building websites, what makes traffic go to them, how to link to social media sites, use hashtags, and how to have a store on the site. Today, I let the web designer do his job and let go of the need to know … everything! Haha!

Love Letter to Life 01.28.21 Full “Wolf” Moon
Dear Life, Readers beware! Today is the Full “Wolf” Moon. Great day for good intentions and considering the well-being of the collective. But say clear of wolves… their howling is deceptive. Sounds like old news in politics!

Love Letter to Life 01.29.21 I Am Made Stronger
Dear Life, Recently, I purchased a set of small plates from the store Kitchenality to support Kitchen Angels who bring food to people who are home bound. The plates were handmade in Portugal and named Ernest Hemingway. I thought that was interesting. This morning, I came across this quote, a synchronicity:
The world breaks everyone and afterward many are stronger at the broken places.” Ernest Hemingway

Love Letter to Life 01.31.21 All That Healing Energy
Dear Life, Mom’s Covid test came back negative. She is in a hospital private room with a 50 inch TV, eating pancakes and being treated for pneumonia. She will be there a few days until a big snowstorm in CT passes > that makes her nervous. Rosie is 91and lives in our family home alone. She told her children,”I’ll kill you if you try to put me in a nursing home”! Hence, her tag name, The Hungarian Tank. Thank you, Angels, for all your healing energy.

Love Letter to Life 02.01.2021 Rosie, 91, Negotiates and Tells Jokes to Doc
Dear Life, My mother is known for her ability to get her own way. She has COPD serious but manageable. She’s had it for 10 years. The hospital brought up her oxygen levels, eliminated the fluids around her heart and sent her home. She doesn’t have pneumonia. Snowstorm is full on in CT. Rosie is happily home watching TV. She’s something else. All is well.

Love Letter to Life 02.03.2021 Graffiti on Family Portrait
Dear Life, My mother has a wall of family photos in her living room including this one. It was taken in the early 60’s, before child #4, David. When Mom got home from the hospital on Sunday, David put a little note on the photo to make Mom laugh and to see if anyone would notice: THE BEST WAS YET TO COME… The Jokester!

Love Letter to Life 02.05.2021 Rosie In Her White Faux Fur Hat
Dear Life, Arlene, my sister, went with Mom to the heart doctor. Rosie is telling the physician’s aide, “You look like a Pepsi girl”. She always has something original to say. Only a week ago she was in the hospital. Gotta love her and the faux fur hat. Rosie is looking and feeling good.

Love Letter to Life 02.06.2021 The Brain, The Brain, The Brain
Dear Life, I am working on a new web site. Artists tend to be obsessive but add a new project on top of the daily creative work and you get this: up at 3:30am thinking about all the details, images, and words. Later in the day to exercise, I walk over to TJ Maxx and rearrange the shelves. I should get a job there! I am painting lines because they feel orderly and look beautiful.

Love Letter to Life 02.07.21 Why Does Computer Stuff Fry Me
Dear Life, My web designer must think I have Tourette Syndrome. My mouth swears faster than my mind can say, “Be neutral and don’t swear every time you feel frustrated”. I went to sleep cranky. Slept 8 hours and woke thinking, “I should be a Gratitude Coach”. You can all laugh now. I am!

Love Letter to Life 02.10.2021 The Body Remembers
Dear Life, A year ago, my sister Arlene flew from NYC to NM to stay with me and help with hospital and doctor appointments, first chemo treatment, and buying my first wig on Valentine’s Day. Now that’s a different way to say, Be My Valentine! Cancer changes the lives of not only the person with cancer but their families and loved ones.
It takes big hearts and great courage. Thank you.

Love Letter to Life 02.11.2021 Snow Angel, Heart Strong
Dear Life, A year ago, Arlene and I made “Snow Angels” after I had a heart stress test to see if I could withstand the upcoming chemotherapy. Heart Strong. We laughed and played in the snow without a thought to the next day, living in the moment and loving one another. I have not seen Arlene or my family in a year due to Covid.
I miss and love you all. Make a Snow Angel!

Love Letter to Life 02.12.2021 Loving Through Cancer
Dear Life, Arlene sat next to me at the Cancer Center Chemotherapy Suite writing in our Sister Journals, a year ago today. First treatment. She insisted we always hold the belief that LOVING THROUGH CANCER would beat cancer. It did! Along with the powerful medicine. Thank you Olivia for being there, too. And all my friends and family.
We loved me to being cancer-free and healthy.

Love Letter to Life 02.13.2021 Love More
Dear Life,
I am painting small watercolors with big energy. Eating small bites with big flavor. Taking small steps with big hope. I am remembering the wisdom of LESS IS MORE. Except when it comes to love and flowers. Love more and go for the big bouquet of flowers. More to be revealed tomorrow!
