Love Letter to Life 06.25.2024 Petscan Done

Dear Life, Up early today. Rolled out of bed into the shower, dressed in metal-free clothes, drove to XRAY Associates, had injection of chemicals, then rested in a dark room for an hour before “tubing”. Report will be available Thursday when I see oncologist to go over results. Came home to start the day over. Drank coffee and ate breakfast. Took Day Four oral chemo med. Breathe and release the jitters. Breathe and Be. Rest then go to studio.

Love Letter to Life 06.21.2024 Summer Solstice

Dear Life, I love summer, the long hours of light, the warmth, the balance of work and play. I love the proliferation of gardens abundant with flowers and vegetation. I love the sky of New Mexico changing hourly with clouds and monsoons. I love to visit family and friends in the CT and Maine, feel my feet in sand, jump into the ocean and lakes, eat lobster rolls, sit around open-pit fires roasting and eating marshmallows on sticks. Summer palette of Joy. Happy Solstice and Full Moon!

Love Letter to Life 06.18.2024 Creativity and Solitude

Dear Life, My mother has stabilized and family is visiting. Rosie loves the attention, is planning her 94th birthday party, and welcoming everyone. She has assured me she’ll “still be kicking” in July when I can make the trip to CT. I have medical appointments and cancer treatments coming up so need to be in Santa Fe. Daily I feel gratitude for my life, and creativity and solitude in my studio on campus. I enjoy the community of people.
Breathing deep, in and out, I carry on.

Love Letter to Life 06.13.2024 Mom’s Kids

Dear Life, Yesterday a photo of me and my daughter was hung in Mom’s home. Her children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren are displayed here. Photos have come and gone from the “gallery” as marriages and divorces happened, and as more children came into the family. I gave my parents the “It’s A Wonderful Life” sign many years ago. Dad died in 2014. Mom moved from the family home into assisted living in 2020. Family and your prayers are lifting Mom’s spirt. The gallery is always changing.

Love Letter to Life 06.07.2024 Working in Studio

Dear Life, Today I have 9 – 2 Infusion then will go to studio. Making art is stabilizing and hopeful. Recently my emotions have met up with resistance to treatment and sadness. Dealing with cancer plus my mother’s shaky health (she’s 94) have weighed on my heart. Please pray for Rosie’s comfort. Thank you.

Love Letter to Life 06.02.2024 Where There Is Smoke

Dear Life, The beautiful blue New Mexico sky has haze, and in some regions, heavy smoke. Where there is smoke there is fire. Summer, wind and no rain makes for a timber box. “Prescribed burns” go out-of-control”. Trying to control nature is a dubious matter. Pray for rain. Conserve water. Be Conscientious.

Love Letter to Life 05.31.2024 Weather

Dear Life, A friend who lives in Omaha told me “22 tornadoes touched down near us”. I went to the studio and painted this. Inside and out, we have all experienced “weather systems” that are harrowing. Thankfully we come through to the other side. Our experience shared helps others to have hope and strength.

Love Letter to Life 05.30.2024 Fun In The Hallway

Dear Life, Classes start at the Santa Fe Community College next Monday. I have secured my art studio on campus through December 2024. Here I am this week in the hallway having fun, dancing between making art and loving these pants. Enjoy life and keep it simple.

Love Letter to Life 05.23.2024 Revolutions Around the Sun

Dear Life, Today I celebrate 71 revolutions around the sun. I thanked my mother for giving me life. Rosie, aka The Hungarian Tank, called singing “Happy Birthday” at the break of day. She’s 94 and still feisty. I have strong genes, a grateful heart, and an amazing Life Force. Thank You Life and everyone around me, near and far. Know you are loved!
