Love Letter to Life 01.14.2025 5 Years

Dear Life, Five years ago today I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Large Cell Lymphoma. That evening, I received an email through Ancestry.com from my daughter who I had released for adoption 50 years earlier. We connected the next day and now have a strong, loving relationship. A miracle. I have been through Stem Cell Replacement, Immunotherapy, clinical trials and ongoing Chemotherapy/cancer drugs until Sep 2024 when my body said, “I need a break”. My bloodwork was normal yesterday. I feel the best I’ve felt in 5 years. I live a day at a time. Miracles are happening every day. Thank you Life.

Love Letter to Life 01.13.2025 Blood Work

Dear Life, This morning I drive carefully through the snow to Nexus cancer center where I’ll have blood drawn through my port then see the oncologist. This is a monthly visit between PetScans that are every three months. Feeling good. Hoping to see strong blood counts. Please remember me and those living with cancer in your prayers. The positive energy makes a difference.

Dear Life, Slept in. Deep and restful. Woke to a light covering of snow in Santa Fe. I feel grateful to have a warm and quiet home, peaceful and loving relationships, strong and resilient body, creative and thriving life after five years of living with cancer. Thank You Higher Power and Community.

Dear Life, I appreciate the Graphite Energy Portraits as a daily check-in. I see them as I do x-rays and serving the same purpose: an imprint of my-self in a moment in time. I hang the drawings in my studio and after a week can see patterns, intensities, the behaviors of the marks. A musician does this with notes, a writer with words, a dancer with movements. We all do this all day making all our different marks. How are you making your marks today?

Dear Life, Returned to my Santa Fe Community College campus. All is quiet except for a few staff and custodians. Classes begin January 21st but I have access to studio and facilities. I sat and enjoyed my space and work. Good to be there. I walked a few loops throughout the indoor corridors. Baby, it’s cold outside so I’m grateful for the warmth within me, my home, and the college. I did my first “Energy Portrait” of 2025. Hello.
