Dear Life, Woke early to the sound of rain, unusual in Santa Fe. Music to the ears and nourishment to the earth. It is snowing on the mountains. The Ski Resort is doing a happy dance. They plan to open on Thanksgiving. Dense clouds are close to the ground creating a mystical feel. Today, I will bake to celebrate a friend’s good news: the chemotherapy is working. Let there be chocolate cake with whipped cream and a game of cards!

Dear Life, Here are two walls of the studio. Work is happening on a daily basis: collage, painting, drawing, experimenting with transfers of prints to canvas. And a corner near the big window is a growing Vision Board. I am grateful to have this studio in the Santa Fe Community College art department. I enjoy the students and staff, our visits and classes. Inspirational.

Dear Life, As I prayed for guidance at daybreak, my eyes fell upon the word HOPE, 8 feet away on a bookshelf in my bedroom. I got up and retrieved the volume: “The Book of Hope, A Survival Guide for Trying Times” by Jane Goodall and Douglas Abrams, 2021.
“Hope is contagious. Your actions will inspire others. It is my sincere desire that this book will help you find solace in a time of anguish, direction in a time of uncertainty, courage in a time of fear. We invite you to join us on this journey toward hope.”

Dear Life, Woke before sunrise. Bloodwork yesterday was overall good but showed a “slight inflammation of the liver”. No answer as to why. So I will have bloodwork again in a month. Not an emergency but my brain sounded alarms. I have the tools to quiet my mind after years of practice: prayer and meditation. And if it is dark, turn the light on. The monsters leave the room. I gratefully saw the soft pink beauty of sunrise.

Dear Life, I worked with Virginia Dwan, the legendary art dealer and visionary, on her personal project documenting graves in military cemeteries throughout the United States: Flowers, 100 photographs on 144 pages in a foldout book. The only text is Pete Seeger’s question, “Where have all the flowers gone?”
Today I honor Virginia and all who rest in peace.

Dear Life, I read inspirational writings in the morning to remind my thoughts of a greater intelligence: Spirit. This helps me be conscious of my words and actions throughout the day. Like all humans, I have a dark thread that can get tangled up in negativity. When this happens, I pause, discover the cause, and discard the thoughts. It helps to have some humor. When something says BOO in the dark, my light shines and says I AM BIGGER THAN YOU!
