Dear Life, “Out of a mountain of despair, a stone of hope.” These words from Martin Luther King Jr’s 1963 speech in Washington DC. More questions than answers rise out of the state of my heart on this day. There is much to do in order to turn darkness to light, despair to hope. Be the peace. Take the high road. Dear Life, A good report: PetScan showed minimal growth of lymphoma. One “lit-up” lesion and minuscule activity. I will continue non-evasive treatment for three months; no chemo or infusions. With the uptick of Covid and flus/colds, I need to protect my immune system by masking and avoiding large gatherings. It will be a quiet holiday season. I am grateful my body is rejuvenating and strengthening. Thank you friends for the support.

Dear Life, I feel the Cancer Trifecta: ANXIETY prior to a PetScan, HOPE to see improved images, and FAITH to accept whatever shows up. Tomorrow at 8:30am, I will have my final scan in 2024, bloodwork at 2:30pm and appointment with oncologist to discuss results. Please think of me and send positive vibes.

Dear Life, We are entering the season of holidays. I enjoy this time of year, the gatherings, festivities, displays of lights and big bouncing Santas and decorations beginning to show up everywhere. These are outward signs of people sharing their gratitude, joy, and hope. I am conscious that we bear the challenges of living. I am grateful that when we come together in community, we lighten the weight of our individual burdens. Spirit connection leads to love and love is greater than darkness. Lean into the light of love with me today.

Dear Life, This FB message popped up yesterday to remind me that three years ago I underwent Stem Cell Transplant. It was the most difficult and extensive treatment I’ve had to date. Dr. Tees had challenging news: “The transplant didn’t work. The cancer is still there.” I am still here against all odds. There have been miracles and dark passages along this journey, too many to be told in this brief letter. But Life, you keep on giving me hope and energy and reasons to live. Here’s to You on this day of remembrance.

Dear Life, Daily practices help me move forward especially during challenging times: prayer and meditation, reading, writing and painting, being of service to others, washing the dishes, making the bed, watering and talking to the indoor plants (they are great listeners), house cleaning, organizing art supplies, walking and seeing the beauty around me, being present, smiling at the cashier, giving a hug to someone. Feel the light of faith within and be in the spirit of hope. Practice gratitude. I love you.
