Dear Life, I am doing a series of collages using maps I collected during my summer road trip. Here is Pennsylvania in progress. I will submit this to my Contemporary Figurative Projects class. It shows how the “figure” is elemental in mapping one’s life, past and present, while offering a glance towards the future: travel, writing, creating art, being in beauty. The caption in the lower center reads: “there she is ____ walking on air ____ she is”.

Dear Life, I arrived in New Mexico yesterday afternoon and was greeted with this sky and these mountains. Welcome Home! The precipitation has transformed the high desert landscape. Lush greens, golds, violets, sienna, and reds rise into the luminous sky. This is one of the most beautiful places on earth. A thunderstorm cleaned my car, White Angel, as I drove from Las Vegas, NM into Santa Fe, NM. I am home after an epic 8-week, 7000 mile Road Trip. My chest is full of treasures. Thank you.

Dear Life, After seven weeks of traveling and being with family and friends in the East, today, I begin the journey West. My bags are packed with memorable moments and treasures. I am full with the joy of living and lobster rolls. My DNA loves the ocean. My body is sun-kissed. White Angel is serviced. My Spirit is my Treasure Trip guide. Thank you to everyone for being with me.

Dear Life, My road trip is now officially name “The Treasure Trip”. I am happily meeting people as I travel through cities and towns. Some are friends and family but many are new “treasures”. I tell them I am on a summer road trip. They beam when I ask “Can I take a photo? You are a treasure”. Making memorable moments for myself and others sharing the love.

Dear Life, Today I head north to Fayetteville then tomorrow Annapolis where I will visit a friend. Sadly must leave Amelia Island where my body rested and rejuvenated. The beaches are beautiful and “salt water cures everything”. I feel it and I will be back. White Angel, my great car, is my “summer clothes closet”. Get it packed. I’ll take one more walk by the ocean and say, Thank You. My other White Angel, Mom’s prayer card, guides me with protection and love.

Dear Life, From the ocean shoreline to the dinner table with friends, I thoroughly enjoyed my first “Strawberry” Moon on Amelia Island. So much fun with Chris and Elaine, family and friends. Grateful for another day to put my feet into the ocean and have new experiences of life and love!

Dear Life, Rolled another 500 miles from Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico and into Tallahassee, FL. Stopped in Mobile Alabama on the gulf for local food at Felix’s Fish Camp and Restaurant. Everyone is welcoming and all smiles when I tell them I am on an epic road trip. Today I reach Amelia Island to be with family friends and put my feet into the Atlantic Ocean. Living the dream and riding the wave of love!

Dear Life, Two days of travel, a thousand miles rolled under the wheels of White Angel from Santa Fe, NM to Wichita Falls, TX where I slept one night and woke to an epic thunderstorm. Fortunately, it cleared by 10:00am. Got back on the road and out of TX, through Louisiana and into Vicksburg, MI. I chose a hotel on the banks of the Mississippi River. This officially marks crossing from the west into the east. Today I travel southeast to the Gulf of Mexico and to the northwest of Florida. Tomorrow I reach my first destination, Amelia Island, FL. Loving Life!

Dear Life, Campus studio is moved home. No classes this summer. In recent paintings, I see pathways weaving throughout imagery. I am preparing for my Summer Road Trip. June and July will be a time of inner and outer reflection; new experiences of landscape, people, places, things, emotions. I will continue my daily writing and art practices. Journals and an art kit are easy to pack. I am practicing disciple with clothing. Do not empty my entire closet into the back of White Angel! Travel Light!
