Dear Life, As I prayed for guidance at daybreak, my eyes fell upon the word HOPE, 8 feet away on a bookshelf in my bedroom. I got up and retrieved the volume: “The Book of Hope, A Survival Guide for Trying Times” by Jane Goodall and Douglas Abrams, 2021.
“Hope is contagious. Your actions will inspire others. It is my sincere desire that this book will help you find solace in a time of anguish, direction in a time of uncertainty, courage in a time of fear. We invite you to join us on this journey toward hope.”

Dear Life, My dictionary app helps me to understand my body of emotions. Pensive: musingly or dreamily thoughtful, sometimes suggesting sadness. After 5 years of treatments, aggressive cancer cells cannot be detected in scans but small B-cell lymphoma is lit up near my aorta: the great arterial trunk that carries blood from the heart to be distributed by branch arteries through the body. Are we ever out of the landscape of cancer once it has been diagnosed? Many people are living in this question. I use words, art, and community to cope. We help one another to navigate life. Dear Life, A year ago, my mother Rose, passed from this world. She is still a force of energy making visitations in the form of bees, butterflies and “bling”. She loved all things that sparkled. Rose had a deep hope to meet her first grandchild and my daughter, Tracy, who was released at birth for adoption in 1968. This dream came true in 2021 after Tracy and I reunited through Ancestry. Rosie did not quit before the miracle. Mom you are loved and missed by many. Let Rose be an inspiration.

Dear Life, A goal of compiling my love letters into a book is in progress. I hope the “Letters” serve as an inspiration for cancer patients, their families, health workers, support teams, and recovery community. Love Letter to Life started when I had a health crisis in 2018 and was later diagnosed in 2020 with Stage 4 Diffusive Large B Cell Lymphoma, an aggressive cancer. I have lived through several treatments and expiration dates. My journey is reflected in my love letters. There is so much more to live. I move forward with love.

Dear Life, My blood test results were great. Normal. My body is healing and generating new, healthy cells. It is a “moment in time” to celebrate. We all can celebrate when we receive positive news. We can all support one another through every “result” whatever it may be. My faith and hope is here for you. Thank you for being in my community. I love you.

Dear Life, “Out of a mountain of despair, a stone of hope.” These words from Martin Luther King Jr’s 1963 speech in Washington DC. More questions than answers rise out of the state of my heart on this day. There is much to do in order to turn darkness to light, despair to hope. Be the peace. Take the high road. Love Letter to Life 12.12.2024 Miracle of My Body

Dear Life, A good report: PetScan showed minimal growth of lymphoma. One “lit-up” lesion and minuscule activity. I will continue non-evasive treatment for three months; no chemo or infusions. With the uptick of Covid and flus/colds, I need to protect my immune system by masking and avoiding large gatherings. It will be a quiet holiday season. I am grateful my body is rejuvenating and strengthening. Thank you friends for the support.

Dear Life, I feel the Cancer Trifecta: ANXIETY prior to a PetScan, HOPE to see improved images, and FAITH to accept whatever shows up. Tomorrow at 8:30am, I will have my final scan in 2024, bloodwork at 2:30pm and appointment with oncologist to discuss results. Please think of me and send positive vibes.
